Hi, has anyone here walked the EHW? I'm planning to do it in a few weeks time and have just bought the official guide, but info on 'web looks scant. I'm going to wild camp the route and I might extend the walk too if my knee holds up. I fancy it because it looks quieter than the WHW and perhaps a bit more remote than the Great Glen Way. Any info would be great (and a gpx file would be even better!) cheers, steve.

I've looked at the EHW on the map on the website and frankly i think this route is almost the same as walking alongside the highway... Most part of the route is running a couple of hundred meters to at most a km parallel alongside the main routes. On map it doenst appeal to me that much.

apparently, theyre altering the route significantly soon but i'm not sure exactly how. i'll see how it goes but with the ban on camping on loch lomond and the crowds this time of year, i still dont really fancy the whw. the cape wrath trail looks a challenge as well.

I've walked it last year. Glen Banchor is a real highlight. Its through some really quiet areas. Apparently they are using the Loch Gynack trail between Newtonmore and Kingussie to replace a cycle path. Also waymarking has started through the Ardverikie loch laggan estate. I'd recomend it. Some river crossing and some hard forest tracks though.
