In case anyone was planning a trip there - it's now nowt but smoking ruins.

The bothy burnt down yesterday following an accident with a leaking gas cylinder (the person concerned contacted us at the MBA straight away) - the fire service attended but were too late.

Too early to say whether the bothy may be will rebuilt.

Andy - how awful - what a tragic shame.  I have been luck enough to have used GDL twice, both in winter, grateful for the abundant firewood and the work put in by the MBA.  I really do hope it is re-built  - it provided a much appreciated shelter two winters ago when there was so much snow in the hills and on the roads that there was not much else to do.  We did a few bits of maintenance there too.  A lovely place.

Two in one year! Who's going for the hat trick?

Which was the other one?  Anyone remember Nest?  One of the best.

Ah yes, I remember now - but just the more modern of the two buildings?

Yeah, there's still the old building, but to be honest it's a bit dark and pokey, with rodents in the walls. It'd be good to see the stove incorporated into the remaining structure, a much more efficient use of the bogwood there than the existing open fireplace.

Shame about GDL, even if it was a bit of a drinking den for Fort William's finest.

Yes, always the trouble with convenient bothies!

Gleann Dubh Lighe was my great-grandfather's home back around 1920--hope it's rebuilt--it's one grand site for a house!

He'd have taken anyone in if stranded, his wife would have filled them with hot broth. He may have approved of a wee dram  -  but as for using his home as "a bit of a drinking den" (even though he is long gone) I'm surprised he didn't show up and kick them all out in the snow---
