Golite pinnacle

I like the weight of the Golite Pinnacle rucksac but am unsure of the roll down top ie there is no lid. Anyone got any experience of this style used in the rain? Are the contents kept dry?

I've used a couple of packs with roll-down closures, though not the Pinnacle, and found them no worse or better than other, more conventional packs when it comes to waterproofing.

Packs tend to be made from waterproof fabrics, but because seams aren't taped, they will generally leak through the seams in heavy rain anyway. There are a few exceptions with welded and taped seams and Macpac's Aztec stuff has always been more water resistant than most, but if you want to keep stuff dry, my suggestion would be either to use a pack rain cover or a dry-bag style pack liner which - wait for it - will use a roll-over closure :-)

I much prefer role down tops these days. the problem with top pockets is that they encourage you to put/loose too much gear in them and they can become top heavy.

I have three packs now and they all have no lid or top pocket.

I've played with the Pinnacle a bit - it looks a great piece of kit.

I bought one and was instantly converted to lightweight sacks - got one for my wife soon after and she's also converted! My Pinnacle is just as comfortable as my old Berghaus Voyager except I carry 1.5Kg less! The only advantage from my Berghaus (both trekking sack and day sack) was back ventilation and since I have also switched to merino wool base layers have not found this a problem.
The roll top is no problem - just think about what you actually need to carry (the enormous back pocket can take loads, but why not cut down anyway!).

I've been considering this pack too, after 2 weeks with an almost 3kg Karrimor, which I cursed all the way!
Can anyone who's used one, or indeed GoLite packs in general, comment as to their durability & longevity?

I've got a go-lite gust, and like the pinnacle its made of dyneema, so it should last for years and years.

I have had a gust for several years and it has not shown any signs of wearing out so even though I fancy the pinnacle I can't justify spending the money.I use a drybag liner and take a waterproof rucksack cover also.I roll a foam mat around the inside and put my gear inside to protect the gear and the rucksack.Great sack

If you want a Pinnacle and find one, then buy it!

I've just been told by the distributors than new stock won't be arriving until October!! Even the US are out of stock ...

I gave u using floating lids a while ago - I much prefer the simple, roll tops.

I can quite see why the Pinnacle has sold out. It looks a real bargain to me.
