Hi there ... does anyone know why the Great Langdale Beck is dried up by the ODG but flowing again by the NDG?Both Oxendale and Mickleden are flowing.

Does it go underground somewhere?

PS My first visit to the Lakes for about 5 years, and first time not a washout for about 10 years

You can see that the riverbed is a mass of boulders. The whole floor of Great Langdale is thick with boulder clay. It's quite common for some parts of the beck to be dry and other parts to be flowing. When there isn't enough rainfall to maintain a flow throughout the river, the water sinks into some parts of the beck and is down there somewhere, between all the boulders, until it pops up again further along its course.
