Am planning a bit of a monster day as part of our preparations for the Lakeland 50 which will involve a long return leg to Pooley bridge from Kidsty Pike. Does anyone know what the path is like both in the dry and wet, i.e. how much bog hoping is there likely to be?

The path is not too bad anywhere along the ridge, although there are one or two fairly boggy bits, especially on the descent from Loadpot Hill. Nothing like real Pennine bogs though, and you can forge through them pretty quickly ime.

That's my recollection too, not too bad along the main ridge, boggier if you drop off into any of the side valleys to the east, and getting wetter on the descent after Loadpot Hill.

Hi - i done that path a few weeks ago, Bonscale Fell, Arthurs Pike, Loadpot Hill, Wetherhill and High Raise to Kidsty Pike.

It wasnt too bad, a bit muddy in places which you could step around, no muddy peat hags etc.

I done it in boots but i remember at the time thinking i could have just took my shoes and been a bit careful.

I would say so. It's very easy walking and you're at Pooley Bridge before you know it. Just keep to the main path when you drop down from Loadpot Hill.

I hope you're going to have a pint or two at the Sun Inn when you get there?

I was reared in the Pennines... aye... and in a boggy part. There's nothing along the crest of the Eastern Fells that I'd really be inclined to call boggy. Odd spots are a bit soft and squelchy when it's wet, but that's about all. But as Matt points out, if you deviate from the crest you can find some splendidly boggy bits!
