Guided ice climbing

I'm looking to take my first guided ice climbing trip next year and am seeking advice on which companies can provide the best service at a decent price. I have some winter mountaineering experience and some indoor ice wall experience but ideally would like 3-5 days in The Alps ice climbing. Loads on the net but prices vary greatly. Any help much appreciated.

First try and decide where you might want to go - Rjukan in Norway offers very good roadside ice, Scotland offers more mountaineering type ice climbing with big walk-ins, and the Alps (La Grave, Conge etc) offer a mountaineering feel but shorter walk-ins than Scotland (usually!).

The best way would be to get a buddy and then hire a guide or instructor.
For Scotland and Norway you would be looking for a MIC qualified instructor or a UIAGM qualified guide. For the Alpine areas only the UIAGM guides are allowed to work.
You can then ask what their daily rate is and split it between the 2 of you. As a guideline an MIC would be looking for around £150-£200 per day (and possibly expenses if in Norway) and a UIAGM around £250 per day (and possibly expenses in the Alps). The range in price tat you have seen comes from people advertising these course and some including the expenses others not, and also if the gear is included in the price or not.

Some courses which appear cheaper may have you in a larger group for the first couple of days, then moving onto a small ratio for the remainder, so again decide what you want to do and get out of it.

If you are set on the Alps then try a friend of mine, Graham:

Hope you have a good one

Two personal recommendations.

and

If this is your first taste of ice climbing, then get out in the Alps, reliable conditions, better weather than Scotland, and cheaper than Norway.

Cogne is a fantastic place to climb, both these companies offer climbing there, and La Grave is excellent too.

I agree. Cogne is an amazing experience.

Liking the video - I've climbed a couple of weeks around Fresiniere which was superb - great climbing, nice, laid-back vibe when you're off the ice. Very affordable too, plenty of nice gites. No firsthand guide recommendations as I went with mates, but I'd second the idea of hiring a British-speaking UIAGM member for a few days if there are a couple of you.

We bumped into a Scottish guide called Murray Hamilton a couple of times. He lives over there full time, clearly knows the area really well and was very helpful and personable.

Video? Neil Gresham in the same area:
