Jaggers Clough

Hope someone can answer this question....

Went for a short walk over the weekend in the dark peak, up over Win Hill - Hope cross and up Jagger Clough, got about 2 thirds of the way up it and diverted up a gully to the left just for a look around,

There's not really a path up there according to the map but I carried on anyway just for the hell of it. Anyway I started to follow a wall up the gully and came across a wierd site, didn't have my camera with me but will explain as good as I can.

There was roughly a 3ft x 1ft section of the turf missing !!!! it had been dug out prefectly and removed !!! I looked around the surrounding area and there it was on the top of the wall, so naturally I went to have a look at it and it was still quite moist. I saw a further 2 of these as I followed the wall up and eventually diverted off to join the path at the top of Jaggers Clough.

Any ideas ?

Some form of university experiment ?

Aliens ?

I've seen these before in summer but I assumed it was someone checking the peat for fires. If they are appearing in winter I've got no idea.

Alien landscape gardners?

Sounds like a university experiment to me. Sort of thing geographers/ecologists get up to.

Just west of Marchlyn Bach reservoir in N Wales there were a series of what looked like cores dug into the soil/bog. Presumeably some sort of palaeo-ecology work. Also a plastic box full of water and test tube with plants growing inside.

Steve I hope you realise the paranoia that has now settled into peoples minds after you pointing out these strange digging site thingys!! I check this thread now everyday as I am now wondering too!

I'm going near there again on Friday, If I can I'll pop back down and take some pictures. You never know, there may be more of them this time !!!!!

Then I'll probably start running away from the area to avoid getting beamed up !!!
