Hi all
Its now the morning after our adventure.
We decided to do the lyke wake walk over 2 days in preperation for doing it in one go at a later date.
Having walked almost all of the 1st section on numerous occasions we deicded to set off on good friday and head for blakey ridge and stay overnight there.
The weather was fantastic but the sun caught us out a bit so a few parts are a bit sore from sunburn.
also being in no rush to complete it we decided to go over the top of each of the hills on route instead of taking the easier track down the side. This was well worth it due to the fantastic views over the surrounding area.
We finally arrived at blakey in the early evening where we had some fantastic grub and beer (as is always the case here) and then got an early night.
After a fantastic and huge breakfast we left on the second leg, the first few miles everything was great, then we hit the bog section...we knew it was going to be boggy but it was just unbelivable, id hate to do it in the middle of winter lol
Traversing the bog seemed to take ages where careful planning was needed to spot the most sturdy bits and avoid a dunking.
The secion after this i felt was the hardest as the path switched between bog, ruts and really rough stone paths which made your feet pound and were pretty slippy.
The next challenge was the bog round the side of the air defence system, it wasn't quite as boggy as the bits before but it was still a bit of a pain to navigate.
The final challenge came in jugger howe ravine, the path down was extremly slippy, and i was glad i had a pair of walking poles with me to help steady my self. This was followed by the climb back up the slippy and crumbly bank on the other side.
after this the route was pretty straight forward but hard going as by then feet and blisters were sore and the beacon at the end didnt seem to get any closer. After a few miles we hit another bog but by then we had the knack of crossing them and then it was just a short trudge to the finish line and then an extra half a mile to the pub
I would definately say the 1st day is more enjoyable as there are more views etc but the second day is definately more of a challenge and im not sure i fancy doing the boggy secions after getting to them without an overnight stop.
anyway im off to clean all my gear and check back through the photos.
if anyone is thinking of doing the walk over the summer...good luck!
