Making work more fun

I want to swap my bank manager job for something more fulfilling - not necessarily financially but that would be good. Has anyone got any suggestions on making career moves into outdoor pursuits / recreation - where are the jobs advertised?

I always thought the back of Trail was the place to look for such ads, but I haven't read it for years.

Try phoning up companies directly - even if they don't have positions vacant, they might know someone who has.

For what it's worth, there were a couple of jobs going in Snowdonia this year for outdoor activity co-ordinators. Pay is pretty poor though - less than £14k. Could you live with half your pay?

The other thing to consider is your qualifications - having SML, SPA and canoeing/sailing trainer-level awards is an immense help, as (of course) is plain old Experience.

This is the jobs website of Bangor Uni. I gives details of local jobs; it's where I saw the adverts for local outdoors co-ordinators. Hope it helps

I've never been able to give a reply in just one post. Never have, never will...

This is the search page of Bangor 'Jobmart' itself.

There's definitely oppurtunities out there - two Bangor graduates this year set up a new company called Cymru Expeditions (or something similar) in Bethesda catering for school groups and businesses. It's a growing market.

Can't you get a bank managers job in the lakes?
