Wow, Mt Blanc.

There is a good article if albiet a bit short about climbing/trekking Mt. Blanc in Time Magazine this month.

From my limited knowledge of Alpine stuff I'd say be preparred for a 2am start for the summit from your hut and a couple of very long days out. Also check if/when the huts are open and you might need to book.

Weather is a problem though, getting it just right is a pain, I've just come back from Slovenia after booking a trek up Mt. Triglav until the weather got in the way, ARSE!

Good luck all the same!

Take some good pics!

On the fitness bit....a quote from the above link...

To make a successful ascent of Mont Blanc you need good cardiovascular fitness and plenty of stamina - as the summit day will involve 10 - 12 hours climbing at high altitude. We advise you to prepare well in advance with regular training and exercise. Due to the altitudes involved, pre acclimatisation for this course is recommended (on a preparation course the week before, or by arriving a few days in advance to spend time at altitude).

Hope this helps.

Vicky,

If you want good valuable info on the Alps then contact Al Powell at Alpine Guides. He knows everything about the area and is generous with his knowledge.

Their web site is www.alpine-guides.com and e-mail info@alpine-guides.com.

Well worth a look.
