Hi,

Can anyone suggest any routes around Edale for a 1 day walk apart from the usual suspects. I've managed to get this Thursday off work and want to do somthing different.

I guess by "usual suspects" the Edale horseshoe is out the window then...? Did it on sunday in cracking weather.

Could always do the Edale Horseshoe again if no other suggestions come forward and of course finish off in the Nags Head, guess I'll have to make my own up by consulting the OS maps........again. I remember the very first time we went up onto Kinder, we were camping at Easter tiem at Coopers and went for a short walk up Kinder, got totally lost and ended up on the snake pass !!!!, course that was in the days of college studenthood with no cares (and no compass!!!). Still to this day could not re-trace those steps again to see where we went wrong. (Oh by the way it was extremely foggy on the tops). Now days I'm a damm sight more prepared !!! Here endeth the lesson !!!

How about popping over the top, down the other side, back up the Snake Path towards Mill Hill, down William Clough, cuppa at the car park on Kinder Road, then possibly back either over Jacob's Ladder (bridleway past Edale Cross) or alternatively along either the back of Kinder or the front.

Or you could scramble up Kinder Downfall for interest then cut across the centre of the plateau back towards Edale?

Climb Jacobs Ladder and do the complete Kinder edge circumnavigation.

An absolute classic, although not the best ascent to Kinder.....

Don't stop at the Downfall for your lunch though. Bl**dy sheep there attack from all angles to pinch it! Even shouting 'Mint sauce' at them does no good!!

Many thanks everyone, although after a discussion in the pub last night we have now decided to do Sharp Edge in the Lakes.

Now thats a new one for me !!!

Just a quick follow up here:

Sharp edge is really good !!!!!!!

Especially when the rocks are slippy......like yesterday !!!!

I like the Kinder circuit, but hate Jacobs ladder. If you can get to go up via jaggers clough it's really nice and always quiet, and rather than doing the exact skyline try and visit all three trig points. This usually makes for quite a lonely walk without the hords of people.

Alternatively start from Edale on the Pennine way and head up Crowden Brook instead of Jacobs ladder (look for an access point on the right at the high section from edale before dropping down to Upper Booth), but follow the water for the last section if your keen on scrambling. There is one steep section near the top, but not too tricky when it's dry.

Just noticed the last comments but will post the above anyway for future reference
