I'm hoping to do a wildcamp soon in the Black Mountains, Eastern Brecon Beacons and was just wondering if anyone has ever had any issues when they have left their car down the valley from Grwyne Fawr Reservoir in the Mynydd Du Forest area carpark overnight (Northen End)?
You want to consult with Impy Dave who's the Eastern Beacons expert on here.
I'll see if I can rustle him up...
There's a barrier on that carpark, which is supposed to be locked overnight (don't know if it ever is: only been there in the daytime!). It has those funny "one way" ramp thingies, which means you can get out when the gate is locked though....As far as vandalism goes, I'd say it was a bit far off the beaten track but, as ever, don't leave anything on show......
i've parked at the mynnyd du car park around six or seven times in the last two years or so and never had any problems - the barrier has never been closed each time, but there is a phone number on it which you can ring if you get locked in and someone will come and open it anyway. sometimes the army use it all night as well, which is handy as they kept an eye on my car for me whilst i was out overnight. of course, you can never be 100% sure but so far, i've been fine.
good for you! There's a bothy up that way too.....
