My Outlaws live near Birmingham and the wife, baby girl and I might be up there this weekend. And with some persuasion the olds might like to babysit while the two of us go for a walk together in the PeaK District.

I haven't been there much before so it would be great to hear from anyone who has any route ideas that take in some nice spots.

The last time I went to Edale and that took about 2 hours in the car from their house - so anything about that time or less would be great.

Thanks.

Have you looked at the routes section - link at the top of the page - from memory there are a few Peak routes, some of them in the White Peak, so even more accessible from Birmingham.

Anyone likely to be in the area?

looks like the bairn has chicken pox so wont be going to PD anyway this weekend.

However, would still be great to get some tips and perhaps some good camp sites (maybe near a pub) and the odd wild camp spot.

James,
I'm not sure about parking overnight but if you can leave your car at Alport Bridge on the Snake Pass Road that runs around the east side of Kinder then I can suggest a wild camp.

From the bridge go up past Alport farm and keep following the stream. Once you're past the forestry plantations the path disappears for the most part and I'd recommend sticking as close to the stream as possible. This will probably mean walking on the stream bed where possible. The point is to get to one of the two upper most falls that are marked on the OS map. Both have great locations but finding a flat piece of ground for a tent might be more tricky.

I did this last weekend and it was hard going and very slow with frequent constant crossing and recrossing. The falls were pretty impressive though. As were the plunge pools. I went skinny dipping and so did another guy.

For an easy route back keep going to Grains in the Water and then take the high route back above Alport Castle. There are paths defined to take this route for most of the way.
