Bit of a vague question, but can anyone recommend somewhere to go in Scotland in Feb - with 2 kids and Wife? We were looking for self-catering, or possible SYHA (short of dosh). Near somewhere snowy - kids want to go sledging, and I want to thrash them in a snowball fight.

Last year we stayed at Na Tighean Beaga, the chalet was very comfortable and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them. The location is pleasant, but quiet. Roy Bridge it's self has a couple of pubs and a post office come general store, so it's probably best to do your main shopping at the Safeway's in Fort Bill before you arrive.

The wigwams at Strathfillan (between Crianlarich and Tyndrum) would be a good choice. Unusual but very comfy accomadation, excellent facilities and easy access to hills both big and small. I took the boy last year and he loved it. I've been back a couple of times since and we're going again next month so we'll maybe see you there. Highly recommended.

Those wigwams look great - what are they like in winter? Cold as a tent, or warm?

The larger ones are heated. (Haven't seen inside the smaller ones). They also have electric points so you could bring an extra heater, TV (reception is crap tho'), playstation, whatever.

They're warmer than a tent, definitely. Oh, and you're allowed a campfire which makes cold, still nights an absolute delight for the wee ones.
