Was anybody out in the Lakes last weekend? I spent Sat night up top at about 600m in a tent and the wind was unbelievable. It switched during the night and was difficult to stand up when we were taking the tent down. It felt like I was going to lose it at a couple of points but save for a couple of pulled up guys and slightly bent poles (Easton alu so not such a biggy) the tent was fine. Off again next weekend and the weather looks worse. Any ideas on what the wind was doing. Times when walking off (escaping) were had to hit deck as wind was picking us up (and I'm 12.5 stone). Figures on wind would be interesting, I reckon 70 mph min??

Possibly less, depends on the gusting. I was out in the Peak on a mountain bike on Sunday and was actually being blown up hill, off road, without pedalling, which was 'interesting' and having to pedal to make any sort of progress, downhill on the road. I think the Online weather forecast was predicting winds in the 80s and 90s in Scotland, but that might just be my brain not working properly.

I live in South Lakes and its been a bit dodgy generally for the last few weeks. Best advice I can give you is if its bad in central lakes head south to Furness fells. Coniston has good weather windows but if thats bad head to Blawith common etc. Still bad and go to Kirkby moor or Black Combe. Last Sunday I was on Birkrigg common in bright sun but couldn't see the lakeland fells at all!
Today has been nice but very blowy still on tops. Snow forecast tonight!

Well Friday was snowy and windy untill about lunch time, when heavy rain hit us, views were of the inside ot the normal grey cloud that follows us.

Saturday started off cloudy, but even Lakeland cloud can't hang about in gale force winds. So we actually had some views (when you could stand up to look at them).

Sunday.. Heavy hangover sort of weather.

Weekend of 26/27 was surprisingly good. Wind was OK, went up Scar Fell and it was earily quiet despite some hefty gusts on the way up. Had some rain and wind in night but nothing like previous weekend. Sunday was also pretty good, good morning with some great visibility giving us enough time to bag a peak and head off for a pint of the finest. Weather turned a little in afternoon. Weather previous weekend was probably so crappy because we camped up high and were unfortunate with a wind direction. Still... it's always good to get out.

Andrew, You are a lucky B***ard. Friday in the Langdales started off fine (snowing but nice) by lunch time the wind had risen and the snow turned to rain. Saturday was extremly windy over Red Screes and Dove Crag.
But yes it's always good to get out.

Ye but it's even better to get out and then pop into a friendly local and warm up next to a fire with a pint! I was surprised you said it snowed as there was no sign of anything asides from tonnes of water coming off the hills.
I said it wasn't that windy but you could see the effect of wind about such as upward flowing water! We got a short shock of hail which stung to hell when a gust hit.

Friday morning saw a fair deposit of snow (3 to 6 inches), but the forecast said it would turn to rain later. I felt sorry for those walking out of the club hut avec ice axes! The good thing is that we only saw one other person the whole day (until we fell into the ODG).

I was on High Raise yesterday (tuesday), the wind was scarey! literally had to "hit the deck" during several gusts!
