I live in Newcastle and the Northern edge North Yorkshire (parents) and I'm wanting to go for a bit of an adventure weekend with camping / walking / mountain biking etc. Can anyone recommend a campsite in Northumberland/ North Yorkshire / Yorkshire Dales or Lake district which is easy to access and offers plenty of different options for activities through the day. Also somewhere with a nice country pub with real ale and good food would be great too. Cheers!

www.newtonwhiteswan.co.uk stayed here with om group.I don't drink so don't know about the beer but someone else may come along to tell you about that .Good walking straight from the campsite .Plenty of biking and walking opportunities.Walk to Pickering for a gear fix in Trailblazer Outdoors followed by a cream tea in one of the nice cafes.Catch a steam train from Levisham station(ten minute walk from campsite]  to Goathland or Grosmont and walk back.Walk to Malo Cross and the Bridestones returning by the Fox and Rabbit pub and Newtondale. Food is good. If you're using public transport you could get to Levisham by train

That is a good shout, its easily accessable from my house and I have come up with a great plan of setting off from my parents house at the end of August,  heading into North Yorkshire for three days camping and walking then getting public transport to the Yorkshire Dales doing the smae for 3 days then across to the lakes for 3 days then back through Northumberland before heading back to newcastle. I havent been on holiday for a couple of years and this seems a pretty original thing to do! So if anyone has nay other venues fire them away or suggested routes/ safety advice I would welcome it all! Cheers!!
