Hi everyone, as a relative newcomer to hill walking and experiencing two wet weekends in the lovely lakes (don't know why I left it for so long)I was wondering wether anyone could recommed the best times of year to go to the lakes i.e. not too busy, not too cold, and definetlty not too wet?
Is this too much to ask or is it a closely guarded secret?

There's no time of year that isn't potentially wet, but April/May and September/October are often nice times to go.

It's not so much when you go as where if you want to avoid the crowds. Can be similar with the weather too - getting up early or staying out late can make all the difference if it's changeable. Use the local mountain forecasts (Hawkshead sponsor a phone-in one) and make the best out of what you get.
