Cadair Idris Advice Please

I am soon taking a group of 15 walkers on the welsh 3 peaks in under 24 hours. I have everything planned and have walked all the routes in advance.
However, I would like to get some feedback on Cadair Idris. I have planned to go up and around the Minffordd path but I have recently spoken to someone who says the pony path is a much easier/better route. Having not been up the Pony Path myself, I would appreciate people's thoughts on the best of the two routes.
The group ranges in age from 22-60 something and are of differing fitness levels. We have completed a number of training walks in the Brecon Beacons and all have completed each route.
Thanks for any thoughts.

The pony paths has an easier start whilst the minfford path goes straight up from the car park. The views from the minfford path through the woods and from the the ridge are incredible. My young son, 7 at the time, walked the minfford path and completed the circulair route.

I guess it depends what you want from the route. If I was on a normal day out to enjoy myself I'd pick the Minffordd over the Pony Path every time - more variety, great views and the potential to make it a circuit over Mynydd Moel. But if I wanted to get up and down again as easily as possible I'd settle for the Pony Path as it has a higher starting point and no descent and re-ascent along the way, unlike Minffordd.

Given that you're talking about a 3 peak challenge inside 24 hours I'd have thought the Pony Path makes more sense. The only thing against it is that the drive out from Dolgellau to the car park could be a bit tiresome in a minibus (assuming that's how you're travelling) compared with the approach to Minfford, but iirc it isn't until after the car park that the road really narrows right down.

Hi Taz. I agree that the Minffordd path is an exciting one. I think that's why I chose it over the Pony Path. Will give many in the team a great experience to remember. Many of them have done little or no mountain walking before they took on the challenge.

Thanks Matt. It looks like the choice is between the 'scenic' route or the 'quickest' route.

Or up to under Llyn y gadair then over to the pony path for the final stretch? That gets you a very impressive Cym/Llyn too.

(Not the direct way up the screes from Llyn y gadair though. Not at all fun.).

I have only done the Minffordd path but thought that one was excellent and would recommend it to anybody considering Cadair Idris.

If you don't know already, be careful if you use a satnav and just type in "minffordd"... It seems the satnavs favours the Minffordd further north and not the one at Cadair Idris
