I am intending to go upto the Brecon Beacons Friday wild camp and do a few routes on Saturday. I haven't been up this way since college a fair few years ago. Can anyone give me some grids of good spots to wild camp ??

Cheers. :o)

You need to find the "secluded" spots higher up as the Beacons Authority are REALLY hot on finding Wild camps and moving them off. There has been a few close shaves with irresponsible "tourists" lighting open fires recently and they are HYPER sensitive over fire risks at the mo!!! (The DP Police and Armed forces helicopters have been reporting wild camps via R/T - so be warned - no flourscent underware drying on the guide ropes!!!)

Also beware of where you leave your car and certainly, don't leave anything at all in it. If you are doinng Pen-y-Fan, then I would only recommend parking at story Arms opposite the outdoors centre, as here there is a lot of movement of people and traffic. Having said that, it still won't be "safe". Sorry to sound a bit paranoid but having seen so may break-ins lately and personally knowing lots of victims of car thefts from this area, just be sensible.
As Tony said, its quite difficult to wild camp near the main paths, but with a bit of imagination, you will be OK.

Yes Well done Heidi, I had forgotten that aspect. There has indeed been an increase in car break ins in the area. I would even be dubious about overnight parking near Storey Arms lately. (It's a pity they can't move Merthyr, in particular the Gurnos estate a few miles west, 300 should suffice!!! :-O )

When I do Penyfan, I usually approach from the Cwm Llwch ridge using the old cwmgwdi mortar range car park. These car parks are less frequented by these delinquents it seems, although I would still be unsure about leaving the car overnight!

There will be some bargains this weekend mate;-) I will find that Mammut place!!

Just put the Hilleberg up, it is massive for a one man! If you want to save weight mate, I reckon we could both cuddle up in it. If I leave the inner at home too, it will give us even more room under the fly. The best thing is, the fly comes all the way down to the ground.
I am going to get a weather report from my mate Ginge who works on the MRT Ogwyn Valley, he took me to the Mammut place last time, I will ask him for he locstat. Should be a good weekend though. Apart from millions of scousers on a long weekend break!!
