Easiest route?

Hi All,

Will be in the area on Wednesday so hoping to climb Y Garn, but not sure which will be the easiest route. Would it be via the devils kitchen, or via the north east ridge?

I don't like exposed edges or too much scrambling, so which, if either would suite me best?

Many thanks,

Steve

Circular route, either way round - I'd usually go up the Kitchen path to Llyn y cwn (a few slippy rocks if it's wet but generally easy), then follow the obvious path up to the summit, enjoy the views (potentially some of the best in Snowdonia ......if the current clear skies hold till Wednesday, which is doubtful), then down the NE ridge (a little loose under foot in places but never really exposed).

I went straight up from the lake, steep but amazing views and no exposure unless you walk close to the edge.

Like Ron says: up the Devil's Kitchen path then turn right for the summit. You can either go back the same way, or try the NE Ridge. Lovely walk....

Thanks Guys.

Went up and down via the devils kitchen in the end, and from my point of view was just do-able, then from the lake to the summit was nice and easy. The weather was perfect and the views were stunning. Have to say it was one of the best walks I have done so far

I did think of coming down the north east ridge, but it looked a tad steep and exposed from the top!

those steps are bloody awful, I only climbed them once and vowed never to do it again, up or down the ridge is much easier on the old knees!

I'm not one for exposure, but found the ridge absolutely fine - and I did it in winter wearing crampons as my first winter walk.

My mate did it via Banana Gully - that's a different story. Much too steep for me (and someone was rescued via chopper from a close by gully as he watched). Stick to the ridge.
