Ecstatic Berghaus staff celebrate the Vapour Storm Jacket's success in the annual awards at this year's OutDoor trade show in not so sunny Germany. And yes, they are all wearing the said jacket and yes, they are indoors.

Clock the happy faces on the Berghaus stand at this year's OutDoor trade show in Friedrichshafen, Germany, as the guys celebrate winning an innovation award for the new for 2013 Vapour Storm Jacket.

Sometimes dubbed 'the Oscars of the outdoor industry', though not by us, the Innovation Awards are genuinely prized within the industry with a lot of competition for the gongs between the brands, so it's a bit of coup for the brand. The jacket itself has been designed by the crack MtnHaus team within Berghaus and is part of a new Vapour Light fast-moving and trail-running collection.

'World's first waterproof venting jacket'

What makes it stand out are the innovative permanent vents on the sides, front and rear of the jacket, which claim to provide a permanent cooling effect, without compromising waterproofing - 'the world’s first waterproof venting jacket' says Berghaus.

It uses Gore-Tex Active Shell fabric for maximum breathability and has been developed both with extensive lab tests and through field testing with top adventure racers in eight different countries. It's another feather in the cap of the MtnHaus team, following on from their lightweight Asgard-series Pro Shell garments and the introduction of hydrophobic down insulation this year.

We've Got One On Test...

We've already used the Vapour Storm here on OM - check out the introductory Just In piece, plus an exclusive first user impressions piece from OM's fast and light specialist, Nik Cook. So far the jury's out, but we need to use it in a wider range of conditions, which is exactly what we're doing.

Meanwhile, the Vapour Storm and other items from the new Vapour Light range will get a good kicking from competitors in the revived Dragon's Back mountain running stage race this September, with competitors being offered selected items from the range to trial over the 200-mile, five-day event.

More Berghaus information at www.berghaus.com. The Vapour Storm jacket and other items from the Vapour Light range will be available in early 2013.
