New from Smartwool for this winter, something a bit different in the merino wool stakes.

Just back from seeing the guys at Big Stone, who bring Smartwool, Arc'teryx and Five.Ten into the UK and thought you might like a quick heads up on an interesting new take on merino wool from Smartwool.
Due out this autumn, it's a range of mid-weight technical merino with a difference called HiFi TML - Thermal Mid Layer. The difference is that the outer face of the fabric is actually hard-wearing, smooth polyamide or nylon for a bit of added durability, while the inner face is familiar merino wool for good comfort and moisture handling.
It's a bi-knitted fabric rather than a laminate and it looks and feels really nice - it's also lighter than most mid-weight merino we've used which tends to feel a bit like, well, a soft, heavy, wool cardigan. There. I've said it.
Styling is quite technical, with neat zip and pocket details. We really like the look of the hoody version pictured, but there are also vests and half-zips in both men's and women's versions.
The men's Full-Zip Hoody weighs just over 500g and will set you back £130 once it's available in the shops this autumn 2011.
