Aldi Budget Bargains Back!

Would you believe a merino wool mid-layer top for just £9.99? Yep, it can only mean that Aldi’s super affordable, but not too shabby, outdoor clothing is back for spring :-)

It's that springy time of year again and supermarket chain Aldi is celebrating by offering its range of super affordable walking kit and accessories in store from Thursday 8 April.

We've tried the Aldi own brand 'Crane Sport' kit in the past and it's astonishingly good value for money. This season's range is no exception with a variety of clothing ranging from shorts to boots in store and, rather improbably, a Merino wool mid-layer top.

We won't list the entire collection here, but the Merino Wool Midlayer is just £9.99, made from 100 per-cent merino wool and comes in zip- or crew-neck incarnations. We like merino a lot as an alternative to synthetics - it's beautifully comfortable, doesn't pong and wicks well too, so it looks like an absolute bargain.

Also worth a look is the Unisex Outdoors Baselayer at £ 4.99 in a short-sleeved, crew-neck design. It's a lightweight, low bulk fabric composed of 50 per-cent Coolmax and 50 per-cent micro polyester. Again, a steal at the price.

There are shorts and zip-off walking trousers with a water-repellant Scotchguard finish and built-in sun protection - £ 7.99 and £ 9.99 respectively plus walking boots, shirts, socks, gilets and a budget waterproof jacket at £ 14.99.

To be honest, we'd steer clear of the boots, but the rest of the range is incredibly good value for money, and while it's not going to to be in the same bracket as top-end outdoor brands, if you're on a tight budget, take a look. Be quick though, based on past experience, this stuff sells out fast. For your nearest Aldi, see the company web site or call 08705 134262.

have bought a pair of walking boots from aldis ,have had them for 2 years now and still going strong, comfortable as well,
what i would like to know are the waterproof outdoor coats ,jackets, with hoods attached, waterproof, i bought one just over a year ago (not sure if it was crane though),looked like a waterproof coat similar to the crane ones, wasn't very waterproof, but the ones i see now say they are,can you verify this, cos i sure could do with one, rather than pay £80+ for one

thanking you

recently bought a cycling jacket from Aldi it was supposed to be ' waterproof and breathable'  it was waterproof but in no way was it breathable - sweat bucket inside !!

Chris, this was one of Aldi's specials.  They last only a few days, and then they're gone.  So I'd be surprised if you'll find one if you go now.  You might be lucky, though.

The fabric used in their recent waterproofs was Toray Delfy; allegedly 10000mm hydrostatic head, and 10000g/m2/day breathability.

Have a look at this thread for discussion of the recent Aldi stuff.

skint bint: frankly, I'd sweat like a pig in any waterproof, even the likes of Gore and Event, when cycling, and most cyclists would say the same.
