We recently told you about Alpkit's
new
cut for their Jeanius,
water-resistant and windproof denim jeans which are now available in
both slim and regular fit. Well, we've now had a chance to use the new
cut and thought you might appreciate some feedback on how they fit and
work.
The fabric is the same EPIC-treated cotton stretch denim used in the
prototype and first slimmer production jeans. The fibres are
encapsulated with silicone which makes the fabric durably water
repellant - it just beads and runs off, though it will soak
out in heavy rain - and windproof, plus much faster drying than normal
denim.
The regular cut jeans though are darker in colour than their
predecessors. More importanty, they have a much looser cut for improved
mobility and a more forgiving fit than the slim version. To put it in
perspective, the slimmer Jeanius meant we had to squeeze a 31"-waist
into 34" jeans and still found them tight on the thighs.
The new version - right - is massively improved if you're not a stick
insect. Our 32s sit loose on waist, hips and thighs and while they
don't have quite as slick a cut as our current Fatface faves, stick a
belt on and they look good, plus the combination of loose fit, diamond
crotch and stretch fabric makes for excellent mobility - we could
happily boulder in these.
Much improved we reckon and just the job for nipping down the shops on
rainy, dreich autumnal days. Price is the same as the slim version at £55
despite the extra fabric including delivery. More details at www.alpkit.com.
