As Light As A Light Thing...
New to the UK is one of the lightest, simplest stoves we've ever seen - one to look at for weight weenies everywhere. Cup of tea?

New to the UK is one of the lightest, if not, the lightest,
stoves we've ever come across in the shape of the US-made Brasslite
Turbo 1.
We'll be carrying a full review in due course, but we thought you
might like to know a bit about it in advance. You can see from the
pics just how small the Brasslite is, but to underline that, it's
just 6 cm tall by 5 cm in diameter and 15mm wider at the base.
It feels feathery in your hands and on the OM scales, weighs in at
just 42 grammes. Add a foil windshield and heat reflector and that
goes up to around 50 grammes. So what does it burn? Meths or spirit,
like a miniature version of a Trangia. It even has Trangia-style
adjustable venting.
Light Fuel...
Obviously it's a highly specialised product aimed at super
lightweight freaks, mountain marathon competitors and adventure
racers. According to Matt at EnduranceKit, the stove's importer,
boiling 1.5 litres of water for a night's stop would
require 56 grammes of meths, so that would give an overnight weight
of just over 100 grammes, which isn't bad at all even when you add in
45 grammes for the fuel bottle.
Obviously nothing with a 5cm diameter is going to be massively
stable, but Brasslite claims the stove has been tested to support up
to 20lb without deforming and it can handle pots up to one litre in
capacity. Price direct from EnduranceKit is £22.
Definitely a very specialised product, but if keeping things light
is your main priority, check out the EnduranceKit
web site for more details, plus information on the slightly
larger Turbo II-D stove.
