A more detailed look at the radical new Berghaus pack system including a pic of it looking like a great big black alien beetle...
In our recent news article about the new Berghaus Bioflex packs,
we explained in general terms how they work, but we thought you might
appreciate a more detailed explanation of the system direct from the
horse's mouth.
This is what Berghaus has to say. We're expecting great things by
the way, anything that's had that much development time put into it
should be good. Note too that the top end sac not only uses Bioflex
but also has the new Berghaus waterproof Dry Fusion waterproof
construction which is just appearing on a couple of new season
Berghaus climbing sacs this winter.
Anyway, here's what the Berghaus man says plus a pic of the system
looking like a giant alien beetle thang.
The majority of backpacking sacs act like a splint - they are
rigid and don't allow the hips or torso to flex and bend as they
should when walking or scrambling. BioFlex™ continuously works
with the body, keeping in tune with its movements and transferring
load to the hips regardless of posture and position.
Flex, Twist and Pivot
Forward Flex - the back system's lumber pad has a
central pivot. It is located within a vertical chamber that allows it
to glide up and down when you bend forward, lengthening with the
natural extension of your spine.
Twist - a central pivot point is stabilised by a
delrin rod that runs around the sac's main frame to the hip fins.
This allows the pack to twist and mirror the forwards and backwards
movement of your body while walking and the more exaggerated twisting
that occurs when looking over your shoulder, scrambling or even
climbing over a stile.
The flex, twist and a pivot in the hip fins work together
to ensure the pack moves in a controlled manner with your body.
BioFlex™ provides optimum load transfer and keeps the pack's
centre of gravity in tune with your own, resulting in reduced fatigue
and the most comfortable carry you can get.
BioFlex™ is available in the new C7 series of
backpacking sacs. At the top of the range is the C7 Pro sac.
This incorporates BioFlex™, along with Berghaus' Dry Fusion
waterproof seam technology, EVABreathe™ foam, a moulded
occipital cavity, 'finger grip' breather hip fins and materials such
as Dupont® Cordura® 700D. The C7 Pro sac is available in a
men's and women's version and has a Suggested Retail Price (SRP) of
£180.
BioFlex™also features in the C7 2 sacs for men and women (SRP
£130) and the C7 1 sacs for men and women (SRP £100).
