Scoop look at what's new in Berghaus's technical range for this winter.
We popped up to
Berghaus's
palatial north eastern HQ the other week for a sneak
preview of their latest kit. This is
autumn/winter 2009
stuff that won't be appearing in the shops until late summer, so we
won't go into too much detail now. To start off with, here's what's new
in the top-end technical Extrem range. The rest to follow shortly.
Incinerator Duvet -
Primaloft and down in one garment....
The waterproof shells in the Extrem range have stayed
mostly unchanged for next winter, but there's an innovative new belay
jacket in the offing called the Incinerator - great name. What makes it
different is that it combines down and Primaloft.
Sitting next to the body is a layer of European 750+ 90/10 goose down,
but over that is an outer layer of Primaloft synthetic insulation and,
finally, a water resistant Pertex Endurance outer. It's all topped off
with a massive Stealth Hood for real helmet compatibility.
The outer layers should keep moisture at bay while the down ones reduce
weight and bulk plus give great warmth. It's a chunky sort of fella
weighing in at 900 grammes or so and feels very big and very warm.
Price will be
£250.
Furnace Down Jackets
You could be forgiven for thinking that the new Furnace
looks familiar, both Rab and Patagonia have done the micro-baffled down
thing already. Think Pertex Quantum outer, 700 fill power down 90/10
down, light., packable and
£160.
Some interesting colours too, including white...
Scorch Fleece Jacket
Made from fluffy Polartec Thermal Pro, the Scorch is a
fluffy light but warm down jacket with Polartec PowerDry
cuffs articulated sleeves and the, er, Bergonomic cut. Looks good, if
familiar, should dry fast and pack down small and light. Price is
£100 which
is a lot for a fleece, but Thermal Pro is an expensive fabric.
That's basically it for
Extrem, we'll bring you news on the rest of the range in the next day
or two.
