The Queen has celebrated her 80th birthday by awarding a great big
prestigious gong to North East-based outdoor company
Berghaus.
The company has landed one of the Queen's Awards for
Industry in the Innovation Category for its, erm, innovative
Bioflex pack design and lightweight kit, which Her Majesty has no
doubt been using for her regular trips to Tesco in search of corgi
food.
The products highlighted by the award include the Extrem Light
range of lightweight clothing, footwear and packs, the adventure
clothing range with its ultra-violet protection, anti-mosquito
treatment and anti-bacterial properties.
We reckon it's the Bioflex back system that really landed
the award for the brand. It's a genuinely functional progression that
allows you to carry a decent-sized load while still retaining
fantastic freedom of movement.
We've used Bioflex in the UK and abroad and every time we slip our
shoulders through the straps, we're impressed by the combination of
mobility and simplicity. That was brought home to us recently when we
tested the new MHW pack that, in our opinion, does the job half as
well at near double the price.
Berghaus are understandably chuffed. Brand President Richard
Cotter said: "This is one of the most highly prized and
internationally recognised awards. Everyone at Berghaus is proud of
this achievement. To gain an award in the Innovation Category
is especially significant for us as we strive for continuous
innovation in the design of our products to help people achieve their
goals in the outdoors."
