More scoop news from Berghaus including first pictures of the brand new Mera Peak.
We told you about Berghaus's new autumn/winter 2009
Extrem
Range updates, but here's the scoop on the rest
of the new Berghaus line-up including a completely new Mera Peak jacket
and the new 'Mountain' range of kit.
Mountain's an interesting one. It's not quite as technical as the
Extrem stuff, which is aimed primarily at climbers and mountaineers,
but it's still proper mountain kit and uses the same sort of top-end
fabrics as the Extrem kit.
Return Of The Mera Peak
There's a new version of the classic Mera Peak waiting in
the wings. The original was often used as street wear by, erm, young
people, but was basically a classic two-ply mountain-walking jacket.
The new version is an updated version on the same theme.
That means two-ply Gore-Tex Performance Shell fabric, four external
pockets, colour-coded water resistant zips, a unique internal double
storm flap under the main front zip and an adjustable, button-down hood
plus pit-zips with water-resistant zips.
Claimed weight is 750 grammes, colour choice is classic yellow, red,
blue or black and price is
£240.
New Yala Peak
Also brand new and also intended as an all-round classic
mountain jacket is the new Yala Peak. It shares more of the Mera Peak's
features, but is made from 3-ply Gore-Tex Pro Shell Ascender fabric, as
used for Berghaus's most technical jackets.
So again it has a fold-away hood, pit-zips, water-resistant
zippers, double storm flap and pit-zips. Claimed weight is a not
unreasonable 535 grammes and suggested retail price
£260.
Paldor Peak
Yep, yet another addition to the 'Peak' family, the Paldor
Peak is a 394g Gore-Tex Paclite mountain jacket. Like its heavier
brothers, it has a fold-away, full mountain hood, but 'only' three
pockets. The jacket uses two grades of Paclite with tougher face fabric
on shoulders, hips and sleeves to cope with abrasion from packs and
rock etc.
The two side pockets double as vents and there are no pit-zips though
it too gets the new double storm flap arrangement below a
water-resistant main zip. Price is
£180.
New Insulated Jackets
If the Incinerator's a bit hot for you, Berghaus also has
a new Mountain level down jacket called the Liskamm. The filling is a
slightly lower spec, 650+ 990/10 goose down with a Pertex Microlight
outer. There are three external pockets, one internal and weight is 630
grammes. No hood though. Price is
£170.
Then there's a new Primaloft-filled jacket called the
Chulu - centre
-which use Primalofts recycled Eco filling and features zipped hand
warmer and chest pockets. Should be ideal for damp, UK conditions,
priced at
£110.
Finally there's a
Chulu
Vest which is, as you've probably guessed, the vest
version of the Chulu, pretty much the same but with no sleeves. Price
£80 with
respective weights of 560g and 320g.
