Not The 70-quid GPS...
UPDATED Ooops, somewhere along the line, we got the price of the new Garmin Geko horribly wrong.

For a lot of walkers and climbers, GPS units have always seemed
too expensive, too heavy and, let's be honest, much too complicated
to bother with.
The new Geko still isn't exactly cheap with an RRP of around £130 for the basic 101 version and £161 for the 201, but at least it's compact, waterproof and light which has got to be a step in the right direction. Unfortunately we got the price wrong before and apologise profusely for misleading you.
If you were at the OS Outdoors Show at the weekend, you'll have been
able to see it there, but for the rest of us, here's a bit more
information on what looks like it could be the answer for those of us
who simply want an easy to use, robust, lightweight GPS rather than
an advanced degree course in computer programming.
It's Dead Small...
The Geko has just five buttons, weighs just 3.1 ounces complete
with its two AAA-size batteries and comes in a package that's around
four inches long, by two inches wide and one inch thick. On top of
that, it's waterproof and has a claimed 12-hour battery life.
For the technologically literate, we can tell you that it has a
250 waypoint storage capacity, simple one-press waypoint storage and
something called Pantrack that lets you convert routes into er,
something else, easily. The Geko 201 costs a little more, but gives
you some extra features including PC connectivity and and, erm, some
navigational games...
Nice. For the full monty, see the Garmin web site pages for the
Geko
101 and Geko
201.
