GO Outdoors - the Outdoor Industries Association, which spells OIA
not GO OUTDOORS guys - has announced its annual awards at the first
ever GO Outdoors conference in Buxton.
It was evidently a bit of a slap-up do, with adjectives like
'lavish', 'glittering' and 'black tie' being bandied about like, erm,
things being bandied about and the OIA President Chris Bonington
hosting the event.
So who won what? Well, there was deserved recognition for the
excellent Berghaus web site which won the Brand Web Site of The Year
Award - it's one of the best manufacturers' sites out there and
unlike many is regularly updated with news and information. Nice one
Caroline and Chris :-)
The 'Retail Company of the Year' was Cotswold Outdoor, the 'Retail
Website of the Year' however went to the guys at Field and Trek,
while Ultimate Outdoors in Betws y Coed won the coveted 'National
Retail Store of the Year' over six other regional winners after
visits from 'mystery shoppers' to assess each one.
There were also six 'Brand of the Year Awards:
Outdoor Garment - Berghaus Paclite Jacket
Outdoors Footwear - Brasher Supalite GTX
Rucksac - Berghaus Freeflow 25
Outdoor Accessory - Memory Map 2004
Tent - The North Face Tadpole 23
Camping Accessory - SunnGas Uno Portable Gas Stove.
Congratulations to everyone. Did you notice that we managed to
write this entire story without using the word 'prestigious', ooops.
Well done us.

web site.

The noise from all that backslapping must have been tremendous! F&T online retailer of the year? How do they decide that? And what's this with retailers dividing their clothes into cryptic groups like 'Adventure' 'Fast and Light' 'Active' 'Adrenalin' 'Explore'. Can't I look at all the jumpers at once? Where's the waterproofs category (oh go on, you can call them shells if you must).
