Brasher's first all-leather crampon-compatible mountain boot and more...
We've already told you about
Brasher's
revised
Supalite
lightweight walking boot for next year, but the company's been busy
with other
Brasher
models for 2010 and we thought you might appreciate a
quick run through what's new.
Supalite II
A quick recap, the lightweight Supalite gets new leather,
a new sole unit, redesigned lacing and, significantly, a new, slightly
less eccentric look, Brasher says 'It's now a more balanced looking
boot'. Here it is...
New Mountain Walking Boot
- Kanaga GTX
The new Kanaga's a bit of a departure for Brasher, it's a
B1-rated, crampon-compatible winter boot with a complete leather
uppers. The 2.2-2.4mm oiled Numuck leather is tough, but supple for
comfort and there's memory foam in the high-cut collar and cuff for the
same reason. Locking lacewear adds convenience and there's a waterproof
Gore-Tex liner.
The sole is a Vibram Foura unit with EVA cushioning in the mid-sole for
shock absorption. Weight is a very reasonable 1600 grammes for a pair
of size 9 and the whole boot has a quality look and feel to it. Should
appeal to anyone who likes Brasher's generous fit and is looking for a
winter walking boot. The price is set to be
£155,
which is highly competitive for a full-on winter mountain walking boot.
Value Boot - Tacana GTX
The Tacana GTX - yes, the names have gone all Daktari - is a fabric
hill-walking boot that's aimed at being great value. That means a
Gore-Tex liner, the new Brasher Hypergrip sole with PU mid-sole and EVA
inserts and a 1.6-1.8mm suede upper. A simple webbing lacing system
looks good and should hold the foot securely in place. Price is
sub-£100 at
£95
in both men's and women's versions.
Multi-Active Shoes -
Krypton GTX
The new Krypton's intended to do a double job as a low level trail shoe
that can also be worn in an urban setting. It looks neat with Nubuck
leather uppers, Gore-Tex liner and gets a grippy outsole and an EVA
mid-sole with a TPU plate. All high tec stuff and it does look neat in
the flesh. Price £95.
Then there's the Krypton's brother, the Xenon GTX which uses the same
sole chassis, but has a mesh and Nubuck leather upper, which saves
weight - down to 874 grammes per pair compared to 922g for the Krypton.
And of course, there's the ubiquitous Gore-Tex liner. Price is
£90.
Finally there's an unlined warm weather-friendly shoe called
the Argon, which sells for £65, has the same chassis, but no
lining, just a suede and mesh upper, but still the same memory foam
padding as its two more expensive stablemates.
All the footwear above will be in the shops early in 2010. For the
