Blimey, it's windy inside... That's if you're off to the NEC for
the Ordnance Survey Outdoors Show from 14-16 March.

Chamber of horrors... Experience
severe wind
without eating a single brussel sprout.

Gore's ominously named 'Comfort Guys' are going to be bringing along
a range of Spanish-Inquisition-style torture machines for fabric and
giving you the chance to stretch, twist, bend, crease and soak Gore's
waterproof and breathable materials till they scream for mercy, or
hopefully not....
The horrors on show will include the Shower Simulator - yes, it
will rain indoors - the Stretch-O-Meter aimed at demonstrating the 30
per-cent elongation of Gore's new XCR Stretch fabric, and interactive
footwear trough and an evil footwear-flexing rig.
Our fave though is the devilish Storm Chamber. It's a sealed glass
box, so everyone will see you scream, designed to demonstrate the
horrors of wind chill. Inside the box temperatures drop to a not
unreasonable 6 degrees C, before adding a refreshing 40 km/ph breeze.
The resulting perceived temperature works out at a not very nice
minus 7 C...
Meanwhile an infrared picture of the current victim is beamed to
an external monitor so you can see the effects on heat loss of
wearing Gore's Windstopper clothing compared to a non-windproof
garment.
