Contour Launches Budget Bargain Boot
The company that definitely isn't Scarpa has a new, waterproof-lined, fabric / suede boot in Brit-shaped dimensions and in the shops now. Worth a look we reckon.

Contour Boots, you might recall, are specifically designed for the
British market and use tooling and designs from old Scarpa models to
produce a good quality boot at a very decent price.
Latest in their line-up is a lightweight fabric / suede boot with
fully waterproof lining retailing for £59.99. The Contour Trail
uses a Brit-specific broader last for a better fit on classically
higher volume UK feet and combines a full hydroban waterproof
and breathable lining with a newly developed cushioned sole.
The new sole, says Contour, is designed to give good grip on 'the
sort of wet and muddy ground so often encountered in the British
hills and countryside' making it suitable for all year use at lower
levels at least. The only question we'd ask, is whether the
breathability of the liner will be up to really warm summer
conditions, but then that's a problem we've encountered with every
waterproof-lined boot we've ever tested.
The boot is also available in women's specific guise and also,
rather neatly, in a junior version priced at £29.99.
Last time we mentioned the links between Contour and Scarpa we
were rapped sternly over the knuckles, so we'd best point out that
these are not Scarpa boots, but they do use the technology from older
Scarpa models with different sole units, which is what makes them
such a good buy. Think the relationship between say, VW-Audi and
Skoda.
