We thought you might like to have a peep at this rather
unusual-looking adventure race / fast movers pack from French company
Eider.
It was apparently designed in close conjunction with some their
sponsored athletes, former winners of the Raid Gauloises, and goes by
the name of 'Extreme Runner'. It's an interesting take on running
sacs using an elasticated , zip-fastened 'vest construction' to hold
the pack firmly across the chest while not impeding breathing - it
says here.
It
should provide a much more stable platform than the conventional
sternum strap set-up and spread loads more evenly. The design is,
rather charmingly called the 'Fit Body Pack'.
That's just the start though, Eider tell us that the sac can be
easily adjusted to three different volumes for different race
distances and demands, takes a 1.5 litre hydration system and comes
in two sizes, small and large, with a wide degree of adjustability.
The back system, by the way, has a 3D mesh cooling system.
If the concept looks familiar, it might just be because Lowe
Alpine has taken a very similar approach with its new for 2004 Alpine
Attack 20 multi-pitch climbing pack, though the chest bra isn't quite
as extensive... That sac too zips down for reduced volume on the
route.
Hmmm... The future for fast-moving / climbing sacs? Maybe.
