First Scoop Pics Of TNF's A5 Casual Gear

First UK pictures of The North Face's ultra-hip casual gear for next year. Be warned, it's for young people and it looks good.

Some time way back before the dawn of civilisation as we know it, we told you about The North Face's new A5 collection of casual gear. And we mean casual gear, not technical clothing being used casually, but straight, cotton fashion clothes that you'll be able to buy in outdoors shops. We also told you that they looked bloody brilliant and at a decent price too - watch out surf brands.

Well, since then TNF have been hawking their pants and shirts around Europe's trade shows and we've had an enormous computer meltdown, but now, at last, we can show you what the stuff actually looks like. And if you missed the earlier installment, here's what's written inside the flies... It made us laugh but then we're shallow and easily amused.

Anyway, this is what the new kit looks like. We'd have loved to get TNF's gorgeous, pouting Keith Byrne to model for us, but sadly he had a prior booking.

And the outdoor connection? It's 'bouldering inspired' and A5 itself is actually an aid climbing / big wall grade, but of course you knew that already.

Men's Piton Shirt - 100 per-cent cottone with 'camp-style collar'
it says here. £32.00. Really

Men's Toucan Shirt we think, cotton with hem side vents
with button closure - £32

Men's Pendulum Crew - cotton / polyester - £27.00

Men's Crag Pant - all cotton canvas with fly logo on Velcro Fly - £40.00

Men's Rappel Pant - cotton canvas - £35

Men's Screamer Short, canvas with drawcord - £25

Women's Capri Pant, 3/4 length, cotton/Nylon blend - £30

Women's A5 Tank - rib-knit cotton - £18

Men's Steelfinger Plaid Shirt, 100 per-cent cotton - £32.

And gawddammit, it's those flies again...

It's all in the shops come February/March next year, so don't go complaining you can't find it and nagging innocent retailers. In the mean time, you can always pass the time by checking out the TNF web site. And no, A5's not on there either...

Very nice clobber, but it's obviously not to be worn on the hill.

Isn't this a worrying trend: that gear manufacturers are branching out into "designer/lifestyle" clobber just a bit too much.

You go into a gear shop and have a look for "real gear"...it's there but hidden away. I have a sinking suspicion that the big gear shops are going to go the way of these sports shops which seem so popular now. No actually sports gear just designer clothes.

Are we going to go into Cotswolds one day soon and not find any mountain walking boots in there...?
