Lightweight pioneers carry on cutting waterproof weight and pack size.

The weight of waterproof
jackets seems to be sliding inexorably downwards towards
the 200- gramme mark and beyond and GoLite's
Phantasm Jacket continues the trend.
It's a semi-fitted, Gore-Tex Paclite shell that in true GoLite
tradition keeps weight to a minimum and tips the scales at a claimed
273 grammes making it one of the lightest Gore-Tex Paclite shells out
there. That's not quite as feathery as some, but it's by no means
spartanly minimalist with zip-secured front pockets and an adjustable
hood, cuffs and bottom hem plus a water-resistant main zip.
GoLite has kept weight to a minimum by using one of the lightest
available Paclite laminates weighing in at 88g per square metre, which
also minimises pack size.
The Phantasm should make an ideal pack and forget until needed
lightweight waterproof, the only slight question mark in specification
is over the hood which is stiffened rather than wired, but previous
GoLite hoods we've used have worked surprisingly well in UK conditions.
Price of the Phantasm, which is available in both men's and women's
version and some rather nice colours too, is £150.
