We're all pretty well used to aftermarket cleaners, re-proofers, conditioners and the like, but the latest innovation from Grangers is Extreme UV a spray-on reproofer that also adds UV protection to any fabric.

The spray is a combination of an industry standard fluoro-chemical DWR treatment - tumble dry or iron to activate - and Grangers' UV Protection System that creates SPF (sun protection factor) ratings on fabrics that wouldn't otherwise offer sun protection.

The treatment also has 'soil release' properties, which basically means the garment will stay cleaner for longer. At £9.99 for a 300ml bottle of the Extreme UV spray it's not cheap but if you're off to somewhere seriously high, it could pay for itself by reducing UV degradation to your clothing.

At 3000 metres plus, the relative thinness of the atmosphere means that the amount of UV flying around is much higher than in pancake-flat Britain. We've got a bottle here and we'll be using it as an excuse to go high-altitude mountaineering in the Andes ;-)
