Swedish brand Haglofs is adding a selection of Brits to its team of 'Friends' - a collection of guides, climbers, multi-sports and elite athletes, who help to develop the company's clothing and equipment.

'When the friends are satisfied with the product,' says Haglofs. 'It is likely that the consumer will be too'. And reading between the lines, the British additions to the team should make for even more UK-friendly kit.

The new British friends are Duncan McCallum, a television presenter and journalist covering extreme sports who has a background in rock climbing then developedinto a top extreme cameraman filming series like The Face and The Edge for the BBC as well as The Abyss for C4 which followed the first and only descent of Low's Gully in Borneo.

Berwyn Evans is a mountain guide and instructor who climbs grade VI ice and E5 6b on rock and has worked as an instructor in centres including Plas y Brenin. He is a member of the Association of Mountaineering Instructors (MIA) and British Association of International Mountain Leaders (BAIML).

Bruce Goodlad - above - is another respected mountain guide who is also a well known outdoors writer, principally for Climber magazine. Based in Chamonix where he runs The Mountain Adventure Company, Bruce has been climbing, mountaineering, skiing and biking for years.

Nick Etheridge and Mike Gale are collectively known as G2 - right - and are fully qualified instructors with a background in telemark skiing, which is where G2 - based in Aviemore - has its roots.

Another telemarker on the team is Kim George, a specialist in telemark ski coaching and longstanding leader of expeditions includiing open canoeing in the Arctic, mountaineering in the Alps and caving courses throughout the UK. He's also a keen cyclist and leads extreme mountain bike rides in Italy.

Last but not least, James Thacker is a Peak District-based mountaineering and climbing instructor with his own company, James Thacker Mountaineering. James has been climbing for over 15 years, is a member of Edale MRT and climbs regularly throughout the UK and abroad.
