Haglöfs Announces Triton Replacement

Updated hooded microfleece on the way from Swedish clothing maestros.

The good news is that Haglofs' cult hit Triton hooded microfleece top is going to be replaced with an up to date version called the Treble Hood. The bad news is that you'll have to wait until late summer 2008 to get your paws on one.

The hooded Triton was a bit of a smash hit with reviewers and buyers alike being a simple microfleece with a neat cut, PowerStretch panels and a handy hood which was ideal for layering under a shell jacket.

When it was dropped from the range, there was much gnashing of teeth in certain quarters. Fast forward a year or so and the concept is back with the new Treble Hood.

Deisgned to be as a light as possible, but still functional, the Treble Hood - above in men's and women's versions - combines Polartec's PowerStretch fabric on shoulders, sleeves and sides of the trunk with other panels made from a light but warm gridded microfleece.

The PowerStretch bits have an abrasion-resistant finish, so you should be able to use it with a pack for walk-ins, no problem. The hood will go under a helmet or make a handy hat alternative and unlike the Trident, there are two useful handwarmer pockets. All seams are flat-stitched for neat fit.

Looks great in the flesh, and while at £90 it's not cheap, we reckon that like the Trident, it'll be one of those tops that gets used a lot.

More Haglofs stuff at www.haglofs.se. Just a reminder, the Treble Hood isn't available until late summer / early autumn, so don't go looking for it now as you won't find it.

I am relieved to say that the Trident  hasn't been used much at all! I don't usually wish to draw attention to typos, but this one had me rolling...

This story has lost me anyway because the Gemini replaced the Triton last year!
