A quick Happy New Year to everyone who reads the site, our commercial partners and advertisers and not forgetting Cameron, John and Chris and the rest of the team at our magazine partners, TGO.

Here's hoping that you have a great outdoors 2005. Traditionally New Year's a time to make new resolutions and kick bad old habits into touch. My New Year resolution's a simple one, to get out into the hills as much as I can whether walking, climbing, trekking or mountain biking, at home and abroad and never to forget how lucky I am to have been born in a time and a country where I have the opportunityy to do that. And, of course, to make OUTDOORSmagic even better in 2005.

Check out the forum thread below to see some OMers' resolutions and maybe to add some of your own. Right, I'm off out for a walk. Have a good one.

Jon - the OM editor :-)

Now that Christmas is over, I wonder what everyone has got chalked up for 2005?

Here are some of my wishes:

1. To complete the Liverpool Half-Marathon without pain or regret...

2. Long walks: this year I want to go long before I need a new knee - the Lakeland Four and the Welsh 15, if I'm so blessed.

3. To learn the virtue of patience. That way I'll be happy with 1 and 2 again next year!

Me:

1. A certain large Himalayan peak if all works out.

2. Some Scottish winter routes that aren't composed of slush.

3. A level of personal fitness and wellness way ahead of the rubbish that was the first three quarters of 2004.

4. I'm tempted to say 'world peace', but a greater degree of all round tolerance towards ones fellow humans would be a big step in the right direction.
