Outdoor clothing and footwear manufacturer Helly Hansen have four new mid-layers on the shelves this autumn, so keep your eyes open if you're out shopping for a spot of extra autumn insulation in the next few weeks.

First, a quick look at the men's range where the latest layers out of the factory are the Bullet High Neck Zip and the Stripe Half Zip, below. Both are being marketed as mid-layers although the Stripe Half Zip could easily sit alone as a baselayer if you're working hard and heating up fast.

Each item uses the Helly Hansen Lifa system, which transfers heat and moisture away from the body, so you don't end up too clammy. Other features include flat lock stitching and a chin shield at the top of the zip.

According to Helly Hansen, the Stripe Half Zip "is set to make fleece jackets a thing of the past". We don't think we'll throw our fleeces out just yet though :-)

On the girlie front, there's also a version of the men's Bullet jacket, but this time there's a fuller collar and the zip's only for ventilation at the neck, rather than opening fully. There's a fetching pink hoody to go with it too:-)

Prices are:

  • £60 for the Bullet High Neck (white, black or red)
  • £50 for the Stripe Half Zip (blue, black or white)
  • £50 for the Women's Bullet Half Zip (black or white)
  • £60 for the Women's Stripe Hoody (pink lightening, black or white)
