We've told you about Hi-Tec's
2010 range, but we thought you might also like a
heads up on what's available from the brand this autumn/winter in the
shape of a pair of the most serious mountain walking boots the brand
has produced.
The Rainier eVent
retails for £140
and is a full-on, high spec mountain walking boot cmplete
with a Vibram sole unit and a waterproof and breathable eVent membrane
inside the full leather uppers.
You might not think of Hi-Tec as a top-end brand, but there's a lot of
technology in their boots. A few years back they did some serious
research into foot strike in running shoes and, as a result, their new
walking boots incorporate no fewer than eight different densities of
EVA cushioning in the mid-sole unit designed to optimise cushioning
during both foot strike and push off.
Alongside the Rainer, there's a fabric version called the Cascada which
retails for £120
and incorporates both an eVent liner and an ion mask treated upper for
maximum water protection. Lace fittings and other hardware look
reassuringly top notch and, as you can see, the Cascada's quite a
distinctive beast.
We should have examples of both in on test soon and we'll let you know
how we get on with them.
