HI-TEC's ionmask On YouTube...

We told you all about HI-TEC's new ion-mask nano-technology waterproofing just last week - it's a revolutionary new non-membrane solution that's appearing in the company's boots this autumn - but it's now been officially launched, appropriately enough at the London Aquarium.

We're not sure what the fish made of it all, but HI-TEC and P2i, the company behind the treatment are certainly excited about it - '“HI-TEC is absolutely delighted and truly excited to be the first brand in the world to bring this incredible technology,' says HI-TEC's marketing supremo Simon Bonham.

Dr Ian Robins, Business Development Director of P2i, adds: “ion-mask™ surface enhancement nano-technology can treat everyday objects without altering the look, design or feel of the object such as Hi-Tec’s ion mask walking boot. The plasma process enables water repellent molecules to chemically bond to the fibres of the footwear on a sub-microscopic (nano) scale rendering the product either Waterproof (WPi) or Hydrophobic (HPi)."

Looks exciting and we have a pair of the new  V-Lite Altitude Ultra WPi walking boots on test right now, so first impressions coming soon.

In the mean time, here's a YouTube clip of the new technology in action.

I purchased a pair of these boots last October.  They are light and comfortable and seemed to be 100% waterproof - well that was until this week when I walked for a couple of hours on footpaths with wet  short grass and I'm afraid to say my feet ended up SOAKING WET! it's taken a week for the whole boot to dry out completely.

To say I'm disappointed is an understatement - I really thought I'd found the ultimate perfect boot.

I know they are not supposed to need ever waterproofing but I going to have to go down that route - any recommendations on the best product to do so anyone ?

Which boots?  The fabric boots or the leather boots?  You'll never make the fabric boots truly waterproof, since there's no membrane, and the leather boots shouldn't be leaking.

What's It For? The Altitude Ultra WPi is a lightweight leather boot that uses a waterproofing system called ion mask, which is claimed to make the boot completely waterproof but without using a waterproof membrane or sock liner, which some users find sweaty. The boot iteself is part of Hi-Tec's V-Lite range of lightweight walking boots. It's really intended for use below the snowline

It was these!! (leather) that's why I'm so disappointed!
