While we're having a Hinkesy love-in - and trust us, you ain't
seen nothing yet - we thought you might like to know that Alan's
unique high-altitude climbing suit, as worn on
Kangchenjunga, is up for auction on e-Bay.
Ideal if you're off to tackle an 8,000-er yourself - or possibly if you live in a shower or Manchester - the
'Hinkes Suit' was designed by Alan personally and is a waterproof
one-piece shell complete with hood made in Gore-Tex Paclite for
enhanced breathability, lightness and weather protection. And not as we might have said before, an insulated suit. Just Paclite.
Apparently there's a rip in the arse of the suit which has been
patched up with duct tape, but really, it's about buying a bit of
history and owning the very suit worn at the moment Alan became the
first Briton to summit all 14 of the world's 8,000ers.
The suit's being sold by Trail Magazine, in aid of Mountain Rescue
and the auction ends on 20 August. As things stand now, at 10.47 am
on Friday 12 August, the highest bid is £385, so things are
looking serious.
So, if you want to buy a waterproof piece of history, albeit with
ripped arse, here
it is.
