Just In - 100g Sea To Summit Waterproof Day Pack

A waterproof day sack that weighs close to 100 grammes? You'd better believe it...

All packed and packaged - pretty small huh?
Unwrapped and stuffed with a down jacket - other colours also available.
Straps are basic, but adjustable and hold the pack in place on your back. Top closure is by roll-top fastening.

Sea To Summit's new Ultra-Sil Water Proof Day Pack arrived in an envelope so small we'd never have guessed it had a pack of any sort in it. A pair of socks maybe. Or a Buff. Or some gloves. But a pack?

Okay, it's a very simple pack, but on our scales it weighs in at a whisker over 105g with another 8g for the tiny stuff sack with its press-stud hanger. It packs down into a roll about the size of a slightly overweight Mars Bar and it even has a corded compression/luggage tensioner mesh thing.

Cordura Nylon

It's made from super lightweight 30D Cordura Nylon with a high tenacity thread count, so it's very closely woven, then, on top of that, it's silicone coated for increased fabric strength and water resistance. The seams are double stitched and then taped to keep them sealed while at the top, there's a dry-bag type roll-top closure made with super-tough Hypalon fabric.

And it has simple but adjustable fabric straps too. You could argue that it's simply a waterproof dry-bag with straps on, but the shape is more pack-like and less of tubular barrel, which makes it more useable.

What's It For?

What's it for? Well, you could use it as day-hiking pack in conjunction with a backpacking sac on trips where you might want to venture out from a fixed camp, but don't need to carry much. It could double as a waterproof dry-bag the rest of the time of course.

Or you could pop it in a jacket pocket on those days when you head out layered up but might want to shed some clothing in mid-walk. Or you could, if you were so inclined, use it as a very light, very simple, but yet waterproof day-sack for very light, very simple, wet weather walks.

Bear in mind that it's super basic, so you need to think about padding out the back area and it's not huge, somewhere between 10 and 15 liters at a guess, but it will carry things and sit on your back.

Like a lot of very light things, it's also pretty expensive at a suggested retail price of £39.99 and yes, you could buy a 'proper day pack' for that. But you couldn't buy one that weighs 100g, packs down to the size of Mars Bar and happens to be waterproof into the bargain. If thats what you want, here it is.

Is it waterproof? We'll let the Peak District be the judge of that...

Just the thing for water sports, river scrambles etc.

River scrambles tend to involve a fair bit of abrasion, so I'd want something a bit tougher for that.
