Just landed on the OUTDOORSmagic test pile yesterday is the Haglöfs Turbine Hood
soft shell jacket and we like it already.
The Turbine Hood is made from two different Gore-Tex Windstopper Soft
Shell fabrics. On the shoulders, hips and outer sleeves there's a light
but abrasion-resistant version with a tough Nylon face to deal with
pack-strap wear and rock abrasion, while the rest of the jacket uses a
lighter version of the fabric with a rip-stop outer face and some very
light insulation incorporated into the backer.
As you've probably guessed from the name, there's also a whopping great
fully-adjustable hood which uses the external cord adjusters first seen
on Haglofs LIM waterproof shells a few years back. Finally the two
massive handwarmer pockets are both venting and have double-ended zips
as well for added cooling versatility.
Zips are contrasting water-resistant numbers by the way, but the main
point is that while Windstopper is nigh-on waterproof and completely
windproof, in UK conditions we've generally found breathability wanting
meaning that proper venting is essential and the Turbine Hood offers
just that.
Oh, and as you'd expect from Haglofs, it looks and feels great. Hmmm,
shallow, us? Weight is around 500 grammes and you can find more details
at www.haglofs.se.
Full test to follow.
