We've already told you a little about
Paramo's new lightweight Quito Jacket, but we now have one
for review and thought we'd tell you a little more.
It really is startlingly light if you're used to full weight Nikwax
Analogy fabric and on the scales, our medium was a genuine 490 grammes.
Okay, that not in Haglofs Oz territory but it's lighter than any
previous Paramo waterproof we've tried including the Velez
Light Smock tested earlier this year.
The weight saving comes from a combination of a trimmer cut, albeit
with longer sleeves to suit cyclists, minimalist features - one inside
pocket and two massive pit-zips - and the Nikwax Analogy Light fabric
which saves 20 per-cent weight compared to normal thanks to a lighter
face fabric. A grown-on hood with wired peak means it's
eligible for adventure racing.
It's the simplest jacket Paramo has produced, should work well in cool
conditions thanks to the extra insulation from the pump liner, but also
be very breathable. And while our experience with the Velez Adventure
Light suggests that it won't be significantly cooler, the massive pit
zips should allow for comprehensive venting when working hard.
Most importantly, unlike most Paramo jackets, it's light enough and
compact enough to take off and throw in your pack without qualms.
The new Quito retails for £195
and is in the shops right now. Full test once we've used it properly.
Discuss this story
i'm sure the one i tried on in the shop only had one giant internal pocket - on the left - along with the dinky warmer pouches inside the lower zip. how peculiar.
