Just In - Rab Cirrus Pull-on
New for 2010, the Cirrus is one of the lightest and smallest windproof tops out there.
New in for review is one of the lightest, smallest packing windproof tops we've ever tested, the new Rab Cirrus Pull-on which tips the scales at 81 grammes in its clippable stuff sac – supplied – and 77 grammes buck nekkid.
The Cirrus is made from super-lightweight 15-denier Pertex Quantum with a weight of around 30g per square metre, which was first developed for use with down, but has wider capabilities too. The fabric also has a mini-ripstop grid pattern to increase tear resistance.
Beyond that it's maybe not quite as minimalist as you'd expect, there's a drop tail for enhanced butt protection when riding or running, a half-length zip with 'micro storm flap' behind it and an adjustable collar.
Cuffs are a simple, elasticated affair and the hem has a single exit draw cord. Finally there are no pockets to save weight.
Fit is slim and sleek without being tight and it packs down absolutely tiny into the stuffsac supplied, which we'll lose shortly. In fact the sac could be slightly smaller than it is, but as is, it stuffs easily and unobtrusively into jersey pockets and pack lids.
What's nice about it is that Rab could have saved a few extra grammes by removing drawcord adjusters and so on, but have had the common sense to realise that sometimes funtcionality matters more than weight figures, so hats off to them for that.
Review to follow. The Cirrus Pull-on retails for £50 and you can find more details at www.rab.uk.com.
