Helly Hansen has updated its legendary Lifa baselayer for this
spring with a new range called Lifa Versa.
Not
to be confused with vice versa, Lifa Versa is the latest development
of the company's polypropolene fabric. It differs from previous Lifa
offerings at the altar of moisture management in two ways.
First, the lightweight Lifa fabric used is cut in a more relaxed,
looser manner than the traditional, close-fitting Lifa garments. A
snug cut is technically effective as it allows more of the material
to contact the skin and improves overally wicking performance, but in
hotter conditions, that can feel restrictive and uncomfortable, so
many users will be glad to see the looser cut. Particularly, we
reckon, more generously proportioned types.
Second, some of the garments use a vented Coolgrid section for improved
cooling and venting in crucial areas. So for example, the Trailblazer
long and short-sleeved tops pictured have back sections made from
Coolgrid.
The arguments about whether polypropolene with its non-absorbent
fibres is better than polyester or merino wool will run and run,
however the lightweight material and loose cut looks like it'll make
the Versa kit a good choice for summer use. It looks way cooler than
the traditional snug blue Lifa top as well.
The Trailblazer comes in both long and short sleeved options as
well as a Trailblazer tight and is available in both men's and
women's fit. Priced at £27.50 and £30 for the short and
long sleeved respectively and £30 for the tights.
